THE MEANING BEHIND ŚHRĪ
ŚHRĪ (श्री) is more than a name, it’s a philosophy, a lineage, and a living story.
Rooted in ancient Sanskrit, the word ŚHRĪ signifies abundance, grace, sacred beauty, prosperity, and splendor. It’s a term that has long been associated with the divine feminine, especially the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, who embodies wealth, fertility, and auspiciousness. The resonance of this word goes beyond language, it carries centuries of cultural, spiritual, and artistic meaning.
In Sinhala, it is written as ශ්රී (“ශ්”රී), and in Tamil, as “ஸ்ரீ” words used with reverence and pride. Most notably, it is the same radiant syllable that begins the name of our island home, Sri Lanka, meaning the “Resplendent Island”.
We chose the name ŚHRĪ because it reflects everything we stand for beauty that’s rooted in heritage, a deep respect for craft, and a commitment to uplifting communities with intention and dignity. It also happens to be the name of our founder, whose vision is to revive and reimagine ancestral knowledge through design, storytelling, and sustainable craftsmanship.
Every creation under the ŚHRĪ label carries this spirit of resplendence, merging timeless values with contemporary design, local craft with global consciousness. To wear ŚHRĪ is to carry a piece of that story to celebrate where we come from, and where we are going.

ŚHRĪ was born from the union of two worlds: the soulful, ancestral traditions of Sri Lanka and the refined elegance of Paris. This unique blend shapes the heart of our brand — where east meets west, and where stories woven through generations find new expression in contemporary design.

At the heart of the brand is Śhrī Amarasinghe, a multidisciplinary entrepreneur working at the crossroads of fashion, technology, and holistic wellbeing.
Born in Sri Lanka and based in France, Shri brings a unique lens to fashion; one shaped by her roots and refined by her global journey. A Computer Engineer by training and a tech company founder, Shri is the visionary behind ŚHRĪ, her namesake label where ancestral artistry meets conscious design.
Each collection is a tribute to heritage, rooted in Sri Lankan culture, yet shaped by the clean lines and quiet elegance of French fashion. She works hand-in-hand with artisan communities across Sri Lanka to breathe new life into endangered techniques such as batik, bobbin lace, rattan weaving, and dumbara weaving, transforming them into contemporary heirlooms.
Beyond fashion, Shri is also a certified Yoga Teacher & Yogic Lifestyle Counsellor. Her passion for wellness and mindfulness runs deep, infusing her creative process with intention and calm.

Each collection begins in Paris, where our silhouettes are shaped by the timeless ease and structure of French fashion. But the true heart of ŚHRĪ lies in Sri Lanka—where the hands of local artisans bring each piece to life.
We collaborate closely with craft communities across the island to incorporate batik textiles, handmade bobbin lace, crochet detailing, woven rattan, and traditional jewelry techniques. Every element is intentionally chosen to reflect a story sometimes inspired by our island roots, other times by global rituals of artistry and culture.
